Amid a school shutdown because of the coronavirus pandemic, the lights at the Maize athletic stadiums will be turned on Friday night as a sign of recognition for the seniors who will forgo their final term at school. The lights will be on for 20 minutes starting at 8:20 in the evening—20:20 in military time.

Maize will join a number of schools across the country who are participating in the “Be the Light” campaign to honor seniors who are missing out on prom, spring sports, final performances and much more.

“Several teachers and coaches emailed and texted me today about doing this,” principal Chris Botts said. “We just want our students to know, especially our seniors, that they are not forgotten.”

Students, staff members and families are encouraged to drive by in the school parking lot to see the display while practicing proper social distancing.
