Basketball review: Boys 2-1, girls 1-2 following first week
December 17, 2019
The boys basketball team started out their season with a loss against Salina South on Dec. 10, 53-51. The girls came out strong with a win against Salina South, 65-20.
The boys team then faced the Northwest Grizzlies later that week on Thursday at Koch Arena, winning 70-67.
Finally, boys closed out Dodge City Friday night during their first home game of the season, 68-39. KJ Hampton led the team with the most points that night, scoring 13 points.
“Our motivation was extra up,” Hampton said. “We knew that we were going to be tired from playing since we played last night, so we had to up the intensity and everything else.”
Junior Jacob Hanna had three dunks in the first half against Dodge, the Eagles leading 44-8 at halftime.
“We never try to be too confident because you never know what’s going to happen,” Hanna said. “We just try to prepare the most we can by watching films, listening and practicing with Coach.”
The girls also faced Dodge City Friday night, finishing out the fourth quarter in a tie before losing in overtime. They then fell to Wichita Heights at Koch Arena Saturday 44-28.
The Eagles return tonight at home against Derby.
“We’re pretty confident, we’re coming off two wins right now,” Hampton said. “The first game was close, the second one not so much, but we’re playing pretty tough teams right now, so we have to come out extra strong.”
