Last Saturday at Junction City, the girls cross country team qualified for state.
The girls struggled to place second due to the absence of runners from being sick or injured.
“Everybody who ran expected to run better, including the girls. But sometimes that happens and sometimes swallowing a bitter pill is a good experience,” Coach Skeeter Rankins said.
Although the boys placed fifth, the team wasn’t able to qualify for state. Senior Jake Omo was the only runner able to qualify for an individual race at state.
The state competition will be held in Lawrence next Saturday.
