Following many offers from colleges both in and out of Kansas, senior Collin Lee is taking his cheerleading to the next level at Wichita State University.

Lee said he is very competitive with certain things, cheer being one of them. Wichita State gives him the ability to be competitive and travel unlike some other schools.

“Wichita State goes to nationals every year in Florida,” he said. “This gives me the perfect opportunity to compete and travel.”

Lee has been cheering for eight years now and after being inspired by his friend, senior Remington Young.

“In elementary school, she would always be out at recess doing cheer, whether it be lifting people or tumbling on the grass,” Lee said. “That’s what really sparked my interest.”

This year, there were over 200 people who tried out for the Wichita State cheer team. Only 38 were chosen.

“I am honored to be one of the 38 chosen to represent Wichita State this upcoming year,” Lee said.

Lee said he has found most of his lifelong friends doing the sport he loves.

“It’s not just about doing the activity, it’s about the everlasting friendships you make,” he said. “I am extremely grateful and blessed to be given this opportunity.”
