Maize boys basketball team ranked no. 1 in 5A.

The Maize Eagles boys basketball team is now ranked first in the 5A division after their close game on Friday against Carroll.

Although, the boys said this ranking didn’t come without hard work and dedication.

“Our team came up in the summer, and to open gyms on Sundays,” senior Chase Schreiner said.

Not only did they work hard in the summer, they continue to work just as hard now. They know that they have to work even harder now to keep this title.

“We plan on doing what we have been doing and working harder because we know everyone is going to be out to get us because they want revenge,” senior Tanner Ohmeis said.

Ohmeis and Schreiner both said they want to do everything they can do to make the team better so they can reach all of their goals for the season.

“We all want to get another league championship, plus get back to state and do better than we did last year,” Schreiner said.

Ohmeis said their journey has not yet come to an end and they are willing to put up a fight to reach their goals.

“It feels good but we definitely aren’t fully satisfied,” Ohmeis said. “We are ready to keep working until the end of the season.”
