Maize football falls to Northwest at substate
November 17, 2018
The Eagles fell to Northwest 67-60 in the substate game at Northwest.
Despite the tough loss, senior Jacob Quiggle said the Eagles had a great season.
“We set the record for most wins in a season [and] we made it to substate for the second time in school history,” Quiggle said. “It’s been a great season. It was hard fought, we had two tough losses to Derby and now Northwest, so we lost to two really good teams and we beat some really amazing teams too.”
The Eagles had the lead 60-59 with :37 seconds remaining in the game until Northwest scored a touchdown.
At the half, Northwest was in the lead 31-27.
Juniors Caden Cox, Preven Christon and Deriq Doty all scored touchdowns during the game.
Senior Jacob Schonhoff said he was proud of the accomplishments that his team made this season.
“I wasn’t expecting on coming out for football,” Schonhoff said. “So just for where we got to and especially for this kinda being a new start for me, it was an out of this world experience. I got to make friends this year that I never even expected to get to talk to. We just worked hard all summer and all fall. We’ve made history no matter what.”
