Eagles defeat Maize South Mavericks 35-0.

Maize football came out victorious in its second game of the playoffs against Maize South 35-0. The Eagles are now 9-1 this season.

Junior Camden Jurgensen was ready for the game. He was optimistic about how the game would play out overall and knew that the Eagles were ranked in a comfortable spot going into the playoffs.

“We knew we were a higher seed which didn’t really mean much in November,” Jurgensen said. “We had 100 percent confidence in ourselves and our coaches.”

By halftime, the Eagles held the Mavericks 21-0 and were still playing strong.

The rival teams of USD266 had only faced off twice before and both brought quite a crowd. Senior Caleb Grill thought the atmosphere was more exciting than games they played against any other team.

“[It was exciting] Because it’s our cross town rival,” Grill said. “We want the bragging rights.”

Jurgensen thought the team was very prepared going into the game and thought they did well with the plays.

“Our strength was being able to execute the play that was given to us,” Jurgensen said. “We all got on board and went with it.”

Jurgensen knows the team will continue to practice as hard as ever this week to improve for their next game against Great Bend and that they will play as well as they can.

“This upcoming week is going to be another grind,” Jurgensen said. “We just have to stay healthy and take it day by day.”

The Eagles will play against Great Bend next Friday.
