Maize football defeats Valley in first game
August 31, 2018
The Eagles defeated Valley Center 49-0 Friday, with many familiar faces returning and new talent stepping on the field.
Sophomore Scott Adams scored his first varsity touchdown, and the first touchdown of the season, within three minutes of the game.
“It felt great,” Adams said. “I’ve been conditioning a lot and working hard in the weight room.”
Sophomore Colby Pivarnik scored his first varsity touchdown, too.
His interception return for a TD extended the Maize lead to 49-0 with 2:49 left to play in the game.
The Kansas Honor Flight was recognized at tonight’s game. Additionally, Korean War Veteran and Maize graduate Leland Alexander was honored before the game. He presented the game ball and flipped the coin.
In the first quarter, the Eagles were on top 28-0, ending the quarter with a touchdown pass form senior Caleb Grill to junior Preven Christon.
At the half, the Eagles led 35-0.
Adams said the future is bright for Maize football.
“Defense is chugging along really well and offense really needs to step it up,” he said. “But other than that, I think the season will be great.”
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at Hutch.
