A week in sports 1/18-1/21: Basketball

Girls Basketball played Friday the at Maize South and led at halftime 42-19. The girls now have a 7-3 record.
“We just came off of two losses in a row so beating them by that much was nice for us,” junior Haile Jones said.
The next game is Tuesday, Jan. 22 at home against Eisenhower.
Boys Basketball won the Dodge City Tournament of Champions (TOC) this weekend.
In their first game, they played against Dodge City beating them 98-71. During this game, junior Caleb Grill scored 38 points, 6 of them being dunks. The team broke the tournament record for most points scored, by 6 points.
For the second game, they played against Bishop Miege, who was an undefeated team at the time. The Eagles won 64-59, landing them in the championship. The boys competed against Heights in the championship game, winning 60-49.
“I think that more people throughout the state are going to know us,” said Grill. “We beat Meige, who has won back to back [at] state and then Heights is always a powerhouse in 5A so they were big wins.”
The boys had several individual awards given to them. Senior Logan Schultz made the Dodge City TOC All-Academic Team. Senior Antonio Espinosa and junior Caleb Grill made the 75th Annual Dodge City TOC All-Tournament Team. Grill was also selected as the Most Inspirational Player for the tournament. Grill was also the TOC free throw champion.
