Personalized dog tags, puppy chow and t-shirts.
This is how science teacher Jessica Fisher’s En-Cor class earned community service hours for Maize’s new Character in Action program.
On Oct. 8 Fisher and her En-Cor class traveled to Woofstock in order to raise money for the Humane Society and help the community.
“At first it was a little bit chilly, but when it started to warm up we had a lot of fun,” Fisher said. “I think the kids had a really good time.”
As a whole Fisher’s class raised $80 selling puppy chow and put in 58 hours towards their class goal of 115.
Each student in the school is urged to volunteer five hours in order to reach the school goal of 8,000.
“Students have been learning about all those [character] traits since Kindergarten so I think its a good thing to finally put it in action and do something about it,” Character in Action committee member Jenny Meirowsky said.
