The Eagles competed at a tournament on Jan. 19-21 at McPherson.

On Thursday night, the Eagles were up against Mill Valley and they couldn’t keep up with Maize.

In the first quarter, the Eagles led 25-10. The Eagles won 61-29. Senior Grant Bugbee scored 15 points, senior John Short scored 12 and sophomore Caleb Grill scored 10 points.

Friday night the Eagles faced McPherson in an intense game. They lost at a close 79-73. Bugbee scored 31 points, Grill scored 14, Short scored 11, junior Dalyn Johnson scored 10 and senior Tyson Love scored 7.

On Saturday, the Eagles fought hard and won against Blue Valley West 50-46. Grill scored 21 points, Short scored 8 and Love scored 6.

“We played well as a team,” Love said. “We usually encourage and have each others backs. I think the last win gave us a boost for the rest of the year because we see the game differently now as a team. We are understanding of what we need to do.”

Maize finished third overall in the tournament and Chris Grill had his 200 win as a coach. Grant Bugbee and Caleb Grill were selected for the All Tournament Team.

The Eagles will play away against Eisenhower on Jan. 24 at 7:30 pm.
