Girls dominate, boys lose at buzzer against Campus

February 15, 2016

The girls imposed their will upon Campus in route to a 51-16 victory on Friday night, while the boys suffered a devastating loss on a buzzer-beater shot by the Colts in a shocking 43-41 upset.

In their first game since HaLee Roland’s terrible knee injury, the girls controlled the game from the outset leading 37-2 by halftime. Junior Taylor Holmes and freshman Alexis Snodgrass led the Eagles with 10 points each. Maize stifled Campus’s offense all game, and the Colts never had an opportunity to create any scoring chances. The girls improved to 11-5 with the decisive win.

The boys were not so lucky, falling to Campus at the buzzer. Maize had a chance to break the 41-41 tie with 12 seconds left, but couldn’t capitalize. Campus drove down the floor and converted a layup as time expired handing Maize their second straight loss in AVCTL play. Maize fell to 10-7 and have lost seven of their past 10 games since starting 7-0.

Both teams will be on the road again Friday night at Salina South.
