The Lady Eagles returned to the 6A state basketball championship tournament today to play against Wichita South for first place.

“I had the upmost confidence in our team,” junior HaLee Roland said. “If anyone was ready to play them it was us.”

The Eagles lost to South, the now three time defending champions, 56-48. This is the first game that the Lady Eagles lost this year.

The team trailed the whole game as South started off with a fast pace, going into the first half 21-10.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles rallied outscoring South in the fourth quarter.

“We put our hearts out there the whole time hoping we could of connected sooner,” senior Saige Baalman said.

Roland said that she wished the team could have controlled the game.

“They controlled the tempo,” Roland said. “Towards the end of the game we sped them up, made some turnovers and made a lot of stuff happen for us, and I think we could have carried that throughout the whole game, that would have changed the outcome.”
