    Wrestling team places at Newton

Undefeated junior Brett Moon stands on the podium after winning the Newton Tournament of Champions Sat.

On Sat., the wrestlers traveled to Newton for the 52nd annual Tournament of Champions. The tournament features teams from all over Kan. and Neb.

As a team, the Eagles placed 14th.

“Newton is an incredibly tough tournament, it’s probably one of the best tournaments of the season,” coach Mike Schauer said. “If you’re going to place at Newton, you definitely have to wrestle well and some of our kids may even have to upset somebody.”

Five of the Eagles placed at the tournament.

Undefeated junior Brett Moon took first for the 160 lb. weight class. Moon defeated defending state champion and undefeated senior Lucas Lovvorn of Holton High School.

Other placers include sophomore Zac Grantham, junior Cole Moses, junior Alex Hydock and senior Devon Baker.
