GSA hosts spirit week

This past week, GSA (gay straight alliance) has had a spirit week to promote their club. Monday was movie monday, Tuesday was dress fancy, Wednesday was super hero day, Thursday was rainbow colors, and Friday is hat day. The club is new this year with new sponsors.

“The purpose of our club is to basically unite our schools’ community and break barriers,” senior JJ King said, “we want to operate as one rather than as many.”

The club has a Twitter and also a Facebook run by members of the club.

“The club impacts the school a great deal,” King said,” It calls in awareness and calls attention to us and creates a sort of safe haven for the underdogs so to say. Everyone is accepted no matter what.”

GSA spirit week has been an idea that the club has been wanting to do for Wichita Pride.

“We wanted to bring awareness to the lgbt kids here at school,” King said, “we want that connection, we want that school pride.”

Senior Caelan Simpson supports GSA spirit week by wearing his hat on hat day.
