Maize High defeated Maize South 71-57 Thursday night, keeping the Eagles undefeated.

“Maize vs. Maize South is always a fun game and we played some of the best basketball we have ever played simply because of our rivalry,” said Maize High senior Kyle Grill.

Grill and junior Avery Johnson were the two top scorers for the Eagles, bringing the team 17 points each.

The Eagles are now 5-0, while the Mavericks are 3-2 heading into the break.

“It feels amazing being 5-0,” junior Jaxon Booth said. “I think that some pressure definitely comes along with that because now we will have a target on our backs, but I don’t think it isn’t anything our team can’t handle.”

The Eagles return to action Jan. 4 at home against Campus (2-3). Maize South will play Derby (1-2) at home on Jan. 7.
