Maize defeated Bishop Carrol on Friday in the regional championship game, 28-21.

The Eagles will play Hays at home Friday for the sectional title.

“The overall goal is to obviously win the whole thing,” junior safety Cooper Forrest said. “But we have to fight to get there, so focusing on Hays is the top priority right now.”

Both teams are 8-2. Quarterback Jaren Kanak, who has signed to play football at Clemson, leads Hays. He has rushed for 1413 yards, averaging 10.4 per carry. He’s scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He’s also passed for 866 yards and 12 TDs.

The Eagles have accumulated 1,820 passing yards and 2,248 rushing yards. Junior quarterback Avery Johnson averages 271 yards of total offense per game.

The Eagles only losses this season were to Derby and Arkansas City.

“The losses during the regular season was a wake-up call that we are playing high school football and anything can happen,” Forrest said. “Those losses push us to be better.”

Also Friday, Maize South’s football season came to a close after a 37-21 loss to Kapaun Mount Carmel. The Mavericks ended their season with a 6-4 record.
