Maize and Maize South will play the second round of the playoffs tonight.

Maize South defeats Heights 48-21 in the first round.

“I think we beat them because we played hard and just did our jobs,” junior linebacker Conner Neill said.

The 6-3 Mavericks will play Kapaun Mount Carmel (8-1)  at the Wichita Heights field.

“This year our motto has been day by day so we take everything one game at a time,” senior Josh Colman said.

Kapaun’s only loss was in the sixth week of the regular season to Bishop Carrol.

The Eagles advanced with a 39-9 victory over Newton. It was their second win of the year against the Railers.

“We had a good week in practice and that really showed on Friday,” junior receiver Justin Stephens said.

Maize has home-field advantage for the next round of the playoffs against 7-2 Bishop Carroll.

“This week we are focused on Carroll,” Stephens said. “Not looking past them or worrying about the rest of the bracket. We just need to break Carroll.”
