Fire safety course overview

Trey Murphy, Reporter

Fire Safety  is a course that focuses on the importance of properly handling a fire and the proper gear to protect yourself from the fire.

Senior Meadow Eaton enjoys the fire safety class and said it teaches her a lot.

“It’s hands-on and the lectures aren’t that bad,” Eaton said.

The class is a mixture of lectures, hands-on activities, and videos. Some activities are timing how long it takes to put on a firefighter’s uniform and how fire hydrants are used to help protect against fires. Students in this class either plan on being a firefighter or doing something in law enforcement.

Maize South senior Rylan Bally enjoys his class.

“This class is fun as hell,” Bally said.

Bally says he has learned a lot in this class that is applicable in everyday situations.

“I mean ladders, just basic stuff like basic skills,” Bally said. “I mean, learning how to stay calm in what you’re doing in the moment.”

Bally’s favorite day is burn day.

“We got to put out a vehicle fire, a dumpster fire, and we got to go into a burning building,” Bally said.

Bally encourages students to take this class because you will learn a lot of life skills.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Bally said. “You definitely won’t get disappointed by taking this class.”
