Maize South defeated Salina South 51-14 Friday, improving to 2-0.

Senior quarterback Owen Bailey completed 8 of 12 passes, including touchdowns.

“Both our offense and defense had an amazing game,” Bailey said. “We could definitely improve on finishing the game strong and keeping focused throughout the whole game.”

Bailey said he has room to improve in the passing game.

“Salina South taught me to not give up on any plays and to go through my reads longer,” he said.

Senior running back Evan Cantu rushed for 271 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns.

“We did best by taking all the energy from the sidelines and putting it back on the field,” said Cantu, who also scored on a 60-yard reception.
