Fall homecoming week began Monday with VSCO and Eboy spirit day. The week with end with the annual homecoming dance from 8-11 p.m. in the Commons.

Hydroflasks, space buns, khaki shorts, cowboy boots and Eagle gear–this is what you’ll see if you walk the hall of Maize this week.

Fall homecoming week began yesterday with a VSCO girl and Eboy themed spirt day.

“VSCO was amazing,” StuCo sponsor Jenny Meirowsky said. “Everybody participated today [Monday]. So that one was my favorite.”

Tuesday’s spirit day theme is space day. The annual jersey auction will occur during En-Cor.

“We get to do a fun skit beforehand then auction off our jerseys,” senior homecoming king candidate Andrew Hanlin said.

Junior and senior powderpuff will be in action at 6:30 p.m.

The spirit day theme Wednesday is frat. An event that has been updated this year is Bonchella, formally known as two separate events, Coachella and Bonfire.

“Bonchella is an event during homecoming week where musicians perform for a prize,” junior StuCo member Cora Bartlett said. “There’s a food truck and games. The ‘bon’ part is the bonfire afterwards.”

Thursday’s spirit day is hoedown, with the pep assembly occurring during En-Cor.

Friday’s spirit day is Maize gear or jerseys. The homecoming parade will occur fourth block.

“We get to ride around the community and see everyone that supports Maize and all our sports and clubs,” Hanlin said. “It’s kind of like us giving back to the community.”

Homecoming candidates will be crowned during halftime at the football game Friday.

Princess candidates are Olivia Allen, Emma Laughary and Taylor Ingram.

Prince candidates are Tate Johnson, Avery Dover and Bode Carter.

Queen candidates are Jamie Maugans, Marta Guzman, Emma Ables, Reyna Meraz and Mallory Stegman.

King candidates are Britton Beggs, Jordan Cannon, Andrew Hanlin, Colby Boschert and Peyton Chavez.

Homecoming week is an entirely new experience for freshmen. Freshman Miranda Pereira is most excited for the dance.

“I’m excited to be able to dress up really fancy to go hang out with friends,” Pereira said.

The homecoming dance will be Saturday from 8-11 p.m. Tickets are $5 at lunch and $7 at the door.

Maize High StuCo will be posting homecoming week updates and reminders via Twitter and Instagram @maizehighstuco.
