Friday night was the Maize Homecoming game against Newton with Maize winning 45-0. The Eagles remain undefeated (4-0) and have yet to be scored on. They’ve scored 162 points so far this season. There were two star players last night making sure that Maize got their win, Caleb Grill and Caden Cox.

“I thought we played really good on special teams,” Grill said. “But I don’t think our offense or defense had the best performances last night.”

Grill says his personal goals are to improve every day, go 1-0 every week, and eventually win the state championship.

“I think the future is very bright,” he said. “If we keep working hard every day in practice, the results are going to keep being the same.”

Caden Cox, a junior running back, was one player who kept Maize in the lead in Friday night’s game. Caden made a touchdown getting the Eagles to 20-0 and then to 27-0 in the second quarter.

Cox said the team is focusing on accuracy the most this season.

“We don’t worry about big plays or all of that,” he said. “We focus on technique and doing our job every single play.”

Cox also said he was excited to remain undefeated.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said. “It obviously motivates the whole team to keep the streak alive, and we’ll hold on to it for as long as possible.”
