It was a record-breaking weekend for the track team at the KU Relays.

Senior Carson Pierce broke her own school record in the steeplechase with an eighth place finish.

Pierce broke the school record at Heights last month in the steeplechase.

This was her first season to ever compete in this event.

“I went in feeling like I would know a little more about what to expect and how to deal with all the challenges,” Pierce said.

She said that she wouldn’t have been able to it without the help of sophomore Aria Sheldon.

“She races it [steeplechase] with me and she’s always right next to me in the race and that helps me to push myself,” Pierce said. “I definitely made most of my friends through sports … it wouldn’t be possible without some awesome teammates to help get you through the rough times and to smile and cry happy tears during the great times.”

Senior Barrett Houchen finished third in the steeplechase to also set a new school record.
