With a buzzer-beater scored by junior Chase Schreiner, Maize boys basketball defeated Derby 61-59 on Friday. Last season, the Panthers scored a buzzer-beater to defeat Maize 67-66.

“There was a lot of pressure because I did not want to let my team or the school down,” Schreiner said.

At halftime, Maize led Derby 37-25. After the third quarter, the Eagles still held Derby 51-44. Derby began to draw level to Maize in a close fourth quarter.

“We were all just grateful that we could pull out a win,” Schreiner said. “Especially in an important league game like that.”
