As young high schoolers get ready for their summer vacations, English teachers Elizabeth Graber and Sherry Pfeifer work long side  the peer helpers, working hard to get Maslow’s Closet ready for their open house. The open house will be held on Wednesday, May 18, during Eaglepalooza. Students will be able to tour the facility and view what the peer helpers have been up to.

Maslow’s Closet is named after Maslow’s theory. According to simplypsychology.org, Maslow’s theory state that before someone can accomplish anything, they must take care of their basic needs first, such as food and clothing.

“[We have progessed] 110 percent,”Graber said. ” This was an empty building with piles of junk  in it and now it looks like a store.”

Many people have donated to the cause, giving food, clothing, and school supplies to those in need.

“You wouldn’t really think that this would be necessary,” sophomore Megan Paul said.”I guess but it kind of opens your eyes [to see] it’s actually something that might be actually [what] we really need.”

Graber says that the hardest part about keeping the Closet up is going to be keeping the place full of donations and well organized. There will be forms for recipients Wednesday at the open house. Graber says the store will be open all year after summer break.
